Frequently asked questions

General

We are based in St Martin in a purpose-built, modern unit. The clinic has a discreet side entrance to ensure your privacy. Call us 01481 723 373 or email cosmedical@healthcare.gg

No. Anyone can book an appointment with one of the Doctors or Nurses at our clinic. If your doctor has suggested coming to the clinic for treatment of a medical problem it can be helpful to have a note from them with a brief description of the diagnosis and any relevant medication to help us to give appropriate treatment.

Usually not. Some of the treatments at the clinic are classed as cosmetic, so they will not usually be covered by your medical insurance. If you want a medical-related problem treated, such as acne, rosacea, psoriasis, excessive sweating or port wine stains, some insurance companies may fund this. We would suggest you contact your insurance company before commencing any treatment if you are looking for coverage.

Appointment cancellation 24 hours. No-shows and cancellations on the day of the appointment are charged at 50% of your scheduled treatment price.

No. If you would like advice on our professional skincare range (Jan Marini) you can have a free skin consultation, you just need to pay for the products you choose.

Yes. We have gift vouchers available which can be used for treatments or products.

At the initial consultation, a test patch will be performed to assess your suitability for Laser or IPL treatments, if this is what you choose.

We offer a wide range of treatments ranging from relaxing and soothing skin peels to more uncomfortable treatments like laser removal of birthmarks. Some treatments, such as IPL and laser for most conditions, are described as slightly irritating or uncomfortable rather than painful. For the highest level treatments, a local anaesthetic can be used, although this is not usually necessary.

Yes. We stock the Mineralogie range of makeup, which is renowned for the purity of its 100% mineral formulas. By using pure minerals instead of regular makeup, your skin is able to breathe, pores do not get blocked and bacteria is not given a place to breed. This make-up can give an extremely light, natural look, or can be used to give complete coverage.

The Jan Marini skincare range is completely different to skincare products that you can buy over the counter. They are extensively researched to offer high-quality ingredients in the right amounts to penetrate the skin and improve it. Because of the potency of many of the products, you should only buy Jan Marini products from a trained skincare professional following an analysis of your skin.

Chromolite-EP™ IPL:

Most people tolerate treatment extremely well, experiencing only a sensation of warmth, or at the most, mild discomfort. Treatment times vary from five minutes to an hour, depending on the area and treatment type.

The nurses that operate our laser and IPL machines are fully trained and certified in their use. When used by trained professionals side effects are kept to a minimum and these machines do not burn the skin.

We use an innovative IPL machine with a sapphire hand piece. Solid sapphire has inherent cooling properties, meaning that discomfort and side effects are kept to an absolute minimum without the need for messy gels during treatment. Cooling rollers are used before and after IPL treatments to further reduce any potential risk of side effects.

It is important to avoid sun and sun bed exposure on the treated area for six weeks before and after each treatment. Using a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 on the treated area is necessary if you are going in the sun.

IPL is a safe treatment when used by trained professionals. Most people experience no after-effects at all, and you can go straight back to your normal routine. Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, and so you may experience mild redness and swelling.

When treating pigmentation, the number of treatments needed ranges from just one or two for freckles and age spots and up to six for skin rejuvenation.

No. We cannot treat pregnant women with laser or IPL. However, you can still have other treatments such as microdermabrasion, glycolic peels and most of the Jan Marini home skin care range.

Regenlite™ FAQ:

The Regenlite™ laser is non-ablative (i.e. it does not remove any skin), no local or general anaesthetic is required. There is little or no pain; most people describe a warm tingling sensation. For conditions that require higher settings, such as dark port-wine stains, a local anaesthetic can be used for patients who find treatment uncomfortable.

Regenlite™ is suitable for all ages and skin types. A small number of patients will not be suitable, such as people who are pregnant or epileptic. Our fully trained qualified nurses will take a full medical history at your initial consultation to ensure treatment is appropriate.

Treatment times vary from 15 to 45 minutes, depending on the treatment type and area covered. Sometimes some slight reddening or swelling can occur, and very occasionally small bruises can appear for a few days. Make up can be applied straight after treatment and you can go straight back to your normal routine.

This really depends on the condition being treated, the severity and the individual’s response to treatment. Some conditions, such as thread veins, can respond really well after just one or two treatments. Some things such as wrinkles and stretch marks often need a series of treatments, ideally two weeks apart.
